The Season of Lent

  By Muriel Davis
“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.” Psalms 51:10.
We are now in the season of Lent beginning with Ash Wednesday; a time of repentance, reflection, contemplation and reconciliation. As we begin our journey to Easter let us do so with repentance and prayer, asking God for forgiveness. During this time let us keep near to God and the cross, asking him for strength in our faith and trust in Him to repair our broken hearts and broken lives.
This past year some of us at Trinity had struggles, hardships and loss of loved ones on which we might have questioned God’s goodness and love. For me, with the serious illness of one brother, and the passing of two brothers one week after another, I asked,” Why?” Joel 2:13 says, “Return to the Lord your God, for He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and abiding in steadfast love; and relents in disaster.”
Let us all reflect on the above verse remembering the joy and hope that comes with Easter, and that “God is good all the time.”
Lent also has an impact on our spiritual lives – our Baptism, First Communion and Confirmation. Hebrews 10:22 reads, “Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”
May we find peace in our hearts, peace in our homes, peace in our church and peace throughout the world. And, most importantly, let us heed the words of our Heavenly Father to love one another.
